PERSONALITY:
Marcus is for the most part quiet and unassuming. He usually looks "completely and utterly bored" most of the time. There is very little that interests him. What does are usually things of history, political science, and philosophy. If Aro is the historian, Marcus is the scholar of the Volturi. He has an extensive personal library of some of the greatest thinkers, writers, poets, dramatists, and political leaders, many of whose writings have been lost to the ages. He takes great, albeit quiet, pride in his collections and people had better have a good reason for needing access for it.
As a former politician, strategy and public speaking have always been very important to him in life (although he doesn't speak much now). He's often very depressed due to the fact that he lost his beloved mate Didyme. This is the side of him that most of the Volturi (even Aro and Caius) see on a day-to-day basis, however, there is a small room in the back of his precious library that, on certain days, can have odd noises coming from it. If one dares and goes to inspect it, he/she will find videogames... lots and lots of videogames a vast collection to fit the most up-to-date consoles available. He even has a small DS that he keeps hidden in a pocket somewhere. And the Volturi shall never know... unless some unlucky person manages to find out... and then there will be blood.

HISTORY:
Marcus was born around 1000 BCE in Athens, Greece. He was from a moderately aristocratic family and were able to afford to send him to school. His father, a politician hoped to get his son interested in politics so that they could become an unstoppable force within the Athenian government. Marcus was indeed interested in politics, but not in the same way as his father. He was more concerned with cooperation and fairness rather than ruling the people. As he grew up, he came into contact and ultimately developed a friendship with a man who taught him how to reason and think on a higher level than many of his colleagues. Marcus entered the public arena, quickly becoming a successful young prodigy.
Even as a human, he was able to define relationships between people and use them to his advantage, especially if something was being debated that was of high importance. He never took part in any large-scale conflict, though he enjoyed (and to an extent, still does) arguing and debating with others. It was this love of debate that led to his end as a human and as a politician. One night, in a tavern, he came across a strange, beautiful man who engaged him in a verbal battle of wits and Marcus defended his ideals to the death. Amused, his "opponent" invited him back to his home for further discussion. Once arriving, the man attacked Marcus, biting him several times until he passed out and the burning of the venom started.
Once Marcus had awoke three days later, the man told him that Marcus had amused him so much that he wanted to keep the young statesman around for eternity. Angered, Marcus left, unsure of what was going on until he'd attacked and killed a young boy who had been lost in the streets. Then his creator found him, and told him the truth, promising to teach him everything he needed to know. They left Athens together and travelled to Italy, a land that was practically uninhabited except for the Etruscans. Soon after, they parted ways for some unknown reason and Marcus continued on north until he met another young vampire named Aro and his newly-turned sister Didyme. Aro offered him a place to stay and the opportunity to join the new coven he was creating. Having nowhere else to go, Marcus accepted and a decade or so later, they were joined by Caius. Marcus soon fell in love with Didyme and the two of them were married.
As the small coven began to attract new members, Aro began to desire more power than any other coven in the world. And, uncertain of what it would lead to, Marcus supported him. They soon began wiping out those who opposed them and gathering larger and larger forces, particularly of those with special abilities. Then they took on the powerful Romanian coven, destroying all but two and the newly-named Volturi coven became known as the Vampire Royalty. They decided to base themselves in Volterra, Aro and Didyme's childhood home. After driving out the vampires, a feat which would gain Marcus fame as St. Marcus, they settled in and have lived there since. Then, tired of Aro's constant lust for more power, Didyme persuaded Marcus to leave the Volturi.
Aro, while unhappy, gave them his blessing, though the night before their departure, Didyme was mysteriously murdered. Marcus was shattered, he begged Aro and Caius to kill him, but they refused, going so far as to use the newborn Chelsea to keep him loyal. He soon became a hollowed-out shell of a man and still remains so up until today, despite gaining Sulpicia as a mate. He doesn't like what Aro is doing, but feels he can do nothing about it.

HOW YOU FOUND US: Ad on Blue Moon Rising
ROLE-PLAYING EXPERIENCE: 7 years or so... I think... a very long time
ROLE-PLAYING EXAMPLE:
It was the eyes... those bright red eyes. She stepped backwards, her mind transported back four years to that night. She managed to supress her shuddering as she recalled in lurid detail that one memory that she kept buried deep within her, but she never could forget. She regained rationality just enough to hear what Alec was saying, his question. "I... I was at a party and this boy came up to me... I didn't think there was anything wrong with him... so I followed him outside..." she hugged her arms to herself, "The police came before he could finish... before he could kill me and I haven't seen him since..."
She'd know him if she saw him again though, she never could forget. "Besides him, you're the only other vampire I've ever seen... I thought if I just didn't... everything would be fine, I didn't want to make my parents or my cousins worry. He took my life away before I was ready... I just wanted to be normal, to live a normal life... so what if I haven't heard of Volturi or covens or whatever? I haven't done anything wrong, have I?" She was shaking now, wanting to shed tears that she could not. She just wanted to be normal, she wasn't ready to give up and accept what she was. That was too big, too frightening. She didn't want to leave her family or her friends. Not yet at least.
Everything was better if she didn't know anything about that darker world. The charade was much easier. So vampires existed, so she was a vampire herself, she was hoping that if she could ignore it, it would go away until she was ready to deal with it.
